Homotoxicology and Everyday Ailments
"The physician's highest and sole profession is to make sick people well, which is called healing." These are the opening words written by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755 - 1843), founder of homeopathy, in his book "Organon of the Art of Healing".
Today, physicians have a multifold of opportunities at their disposal-to attain this goal of healing. We are confronted with a very broad spectrum of disease in our daily ambulant health practices, calling for a broad choice of possible available therapeutic approaches. We can and should make use of the advantages of each respective method for the well-being of our patients.
On the one hand we have allopathic medicine. Antibiotics and chemotherapy can be used against too numerous, too virulent, or too toxic pathogens. Substitutions can be administered against defciencies in vitamins, ferments, or hormones; excessive reactions can be inhibited or even suppressed entirely. Such forms of therapy all attempt to intervene in the body's own defense mechanisms, to modify them in cases of danger f and make life-saving changes. An "anti-program" is always necessary for such a job. the antitoxin - an antibiotic, antiallergic, antipyretic, antitussive, antiphlogistic, etc. And such an anti-agent invariably has to be administered in fairly high doses, since it must suppress and cover up the body's own reactive response. It is always difficult to make the right decision on the exactly correct dose for the individual patient. Hence the high quota of undesirable side effects. The acting physician must make a fundamental decision for every patient, for every incidence of disease: does the current situation demand the administration of an anti-agent (in which case the benefits and detriments have to be weighed), or is it possible and make better sense to activate and support the body's own defense mechanisms at this time? Because on the other hand, taking the biological side of bodily processes into account, the physician has access to many possibilities - from non-specific strengthening of resistance to advantages gained from physiotherapy or phytotherapy, to very specific stimuli such as active immunization.
Approximately 70 % of patients today occasionally make use of natural remedies. The public's interest in medication low on side effects is constantly growing. Hence it is important for every physician to become familiar with natural therapeutic methods of treatment.
Let me once again explain the concept of "homotoxicology".
Homotoxicology is concerned with the effects of toxious substances on humans, human poisons or "homotoxins" within the human organism. It makes no difference whether these homotoxins are exogenous (introduced from the outside) or endogenous (created within the body, autotoxins such as not completely or pathologically broken down metabolic products). The toxic substance is the focus of attention in homotoxicology. All symptoms of an ailment can be traced back to the effect of the toxin.
Illnesses, according to homotoxicology, represent the body's expedient defensive processes against the toxint and its attempt to compensate for damages that have been provoked. The therapy with biotherapeutic and antihomotoxic remedies is a stimulation therapy employing fine, subliminal or very slight stimuli in order to mobilize new defense mechanisms kept in reserve (perhaps also additional antibodies), directed against these freshly introduced toxic substances. The therapeutic goal of a treatment with antihomotoxic remedies is hence the stimulation and support of the body's own reactions and natural defense mechanisms.
Biotherapeutic antihomotoxic remedies are preparations which go beyond or complement the classic homeopathic preparations according to Hahnemann's teachings. Antihomotoxic remedies aim to spread, intensify, and hence strengthen the therapeutic effect. Antihomotoxic ready-to-administer medication partially contains, alongside the classic homeopathic medication (i.e. homeopathic preparations made of plant, animal, and mineral raw material), other substances which serve to promote the therapeutic effect as well. These include allopathic medication and tissues (organ preparations) which have been rendered in homeopathic form, nosodes, co-enzymes and intermediary catalyzers. Thus the complex substances contain both homeopathic agents which share a common site of action (these produce an additive effect), as well as agents which have different sites of action, thereby attaining a potentiation of the effect.
Indications for antihomotoxic remedies range from acute inflammatory illnesses to chronic diseases, all the way to degenerative degradation processes and environmental diseases. The indication spectrum hence includes the entire scope of homeopathic therapies. But we also have to set limits for antihomotoxic therapy, namely where the organism's ability of self-regulation is exceeded or obstructed by conditions which have to be diagnostically clarifed, since the antihomotoxic remedies depend on the ability of the organism to react in order for their healing potential to be realized. My daily medical practice would be unthinkable without providing therapy using biotherapeutic antihomotoxic remedies. Pediatrics, especially, is a broad field for biological therapy, since children do not generally suffer from blockage the way adults do. This assumes, however f that the children have not been treated too often with antibiotics or cortisone, which is unfortunately more and more the case nowadays. e notice that especially such children are inclined to suffer recurrent diseases, since they are not able to build up an immune system. Every onset of illness is prematurely blocked with an antipyretic or antibiotic, and illnesses develop in progressive vicariation, with the child often suffering an accumulation of diseases, occasionally even totally new forms of illness, due to germ layer shift.
One of the most common preparations used in pediatrics is Viburcol. These suppositories can be administered to children and infants for all commonplace infections, with or without fever, teething complaints, and flatulent colic. The components of Viburcol bring about a lytic reduction of fever, a calming of the patient, and a spasmolytic effect.
However, fever is a natural reaction of the body. In this reaction phase, the body wants to get rid of its toxins. Modern immunology is aware that at a temperature of 39.5 C, all immune-competent cells are about 80 % more active. To always suppress the fever with an antipyretic is to hinder the body's own healing processes. Exceptions are long-term fever states above 40 0C or a case history of fever cramps.
The antihomotoxic remedies are Aconitum-Homaccord for feverish disease characterized by dry fever. The homeopathic drug picture of Aconitum describes a dry, hot skin, internal restlessness with anxiety, and the sudden occurrence of the illness.
In contrast, Belladonna-Homaccord is the remedy to use against fever accompanied by a moist sweat. Furthermore 1 Belladonna-Homaccord should be applied for all already localized inflammatory processes (reaction phases) evidenced by redness of the skin, swelling, excessive bodily heat, and physical pain (such as the case with measles, scarlet fever, Angina tonsillaris (peritonsillar abscess), boils carbuncles, sinusitis, and cholangitis). Only later, when the tendency towards suppuration or maturation has become clear, can other pharmaceutical products such as Traumeel S or Arnica-Heel or the pus remedy Mercurius-Heel be considered.
In the case of virus diseases, Engystol is the best remedy. According to the specifc symptoms, other remedies can be added and used in combination. With coughing, for instance, Husteel: with spasmodic bronchitis and hacking cough, Drosera-Homaccord: with bronchial asthma or whooping cough' Tartephedreel as expectorant, and Gripp-Heel to give relief to the agonizing accompanying symptoms in case of flu. Euphorbium compositum S can be applied for acute or chronic nasal catarrh, for dry nasal mucous membranes, chronic nasal-sinus inflammations, as well as Luffa compositum for allergic head colds.
Less serious forms of cardiovascular diseases can be treated with the following remedies: Cralonin, Cactus compositum, Glonoinum-Homaccord, Mellilotus-Homaccord, and Aurumheel N. All preparations contain Crataegus as a component ingredient, with its specifc effect on myocardial and coronary vessels, including positive inotropric characteristics and a calming effect on arrhythmia of the heart. Cactus compositum and Glonoinum-Homaccord have a specifc antihomotoxic effect on the anginose syndrome and coronary circulatory disorders. Mellilotus-Homaccord and Glonoinum-Homaccord lower high blood pressure, relieve head pressure pain, and improve coronary circulation. Aurumheel N stabilizes the circulatory system and eases the patient, and is thus suitable medication for tachycardiac forms in hypotonic patients.
The tremendous remedy Traumeel S offers a broad range of therapeutic possibilities in cases of injuries, sprains, disolocations, contusions, hematomas and hemarthroses, bone fractures, postoperative and posttraumatic edema, soft-tissue swelling, and inflammatory and other degenerative processes associated with inflammation in diverse organs and tissues, especially on the musculoskeletal system. We can apply Traumeel S locally as an ointment, orally as drops and tablets, and parenterally in the form of ampoules. In the case of arthrosis and arthritides as well as spinal diseases, it is often preferable to inject Traumeel S intra-articularly or periarticularly.
Especially for polyarthroses, Arthrosis deformans, spondylarthrosis or other forms of degenerative arthritides, aside from Traumeel S the complex remedy Zeel comp. can be administered for its beneficial chondroprotective, chondrotropic and chondronutritive effects.
Headaches and migraines respond well to Gelsemium-Homaccord, Spigelon or Cimicifuga-Homaccord.
Lymphomyosot, a medicinal product which quickens the flow of lymph and hence detoxifies the mesenchyme, is particularly suited for lymphatic patients with tonsillar hyperplasia, chronic recurring angina, or lymph edemas and lymphangiopathies. It is altogether the most important detoxification and drainage remedy in all impregnation, degeneration, and neoplasma (dedifferentiation) phases. For all diseases caused by environmental toxins, Lymphomyosot is a crucial means to cleanse the connective tissue. Concomitant to Lymphomyosot, Hepeel or Hepar compositum must also be administered to detoxi the liver, Solidago compositum to clean the kidneys, and Nux vomica-Homaccord to improve the gastro-intestinal tract.
Biological preparations should be increasingly used in geriatrics as well, since the many diverse medicaments administered to polypathic patients involve a large number of undesirable side effects. I administer Barijodeel as the basic remedy -this is the pill for older people in general - due to its therapeutic possibilities for arteriosclerosis, arteriosclerotic dementia, hyperactivity and insomnia, loss of memory and dizziness based on arteriosclerosis, for postapoplectic paresis, Tinnitus aureum, and senile depression.
Vertigoheel is the antivertigenous remedy to be used for dizziness originating from any cause. Vertigoheel improves the cerebrovascular circulation and reduces the sensations of vertigo without sedating the patient. In the case of retarded brain-stem syndrome with weakness and dizziness, I like to prepare a combination injection of Vertigoheelf Circulo-lnjeel and Cerebrum compositum, and administer this mixture around the greater circumferance of the skull cap (upper cranium) as subcutaneous injections.
In case of varicose insufrciency or acute thrombophlebitis, I have the following preparations at my disposal: Hamamelis-Homaccord to remove the venous stasis Aesculus compositum to improve the peripheral circulation f Belladonna-Homaccord for red, hot inflammation, Apis-Homaccord for venous edemas. These remedies can be applied singly or in combination, depending on the symptom complex. Acute, colic-like complaints (such as biliary colic or renal colic) also respond to antihomotoxic therapies. A combination injection of Spascupreel and Atropinum compositum - half of the mixture intravenously, half of it applied as subcutaneous therapy in the specific segment (Head Zone) brings rapid relief without any side effects.
Ladies and gentlemen, our daily practice brings us a broad spectrum of patients with an even broader spectrum of desires and anxieties. I have tried to suggest other ways of responding to these problems with alternative therapies, by naming a few examples. We could go on like this for hours, but I do not want to overtax your patience. However, I would be only too happy to think I have been able to awaken your interest and hence stimulate attempts at alternative therapies in these directions. I can heartily recommend the Ordinatio Antihomotoxica et Materia Medica-Heel from HEEL, which contains many therapeutic suggestions for a great many practical medical problems.
